Rain alone, or rain with music?
For sleep, many people prefer rain alone: its steadiness, close to pink noise, is ideal for masking the noises of the night. For reading, working or unwinding, a slow wordless music under the rain gives the hour a shape. Both versions exist here; the title tells you which is which.
Thunderstorm, rain on a tent, rain on leaves
Every texture has its effect. Rain on a tent or a wooden roof is deep and enveloping, the best choice for the night. Rain on leaves is lighter and brighter, better for the daytime. A distant thunderstorm adds a slow rumble that some sleepers love and others do not; try it once with the volume low.

Why do rain sounds help you sleep?
Rain is broadband, steady and unpredictable in the small details but never in the whole. It masks the sounds that wake you, and it gives the brain a constant to settle on. Our guide on which rain works best explains the differences between roof, forest, storm and jungle rain.
Rain with or without thunder for falling asleep?
Without, if you wake easily. A distant, rolling thunder can deepen the cocoon for others. Start without, and add the storm in the Sound Studio if you miss it.
Can I set the rain myself?
